Sunday Driver on Tour

Hailing from Bielsko-Biała, Poland. Sunday Driver on Tour was
formed in 2008. Sunday Driver On Tour music is a mix of hard rock,
metal, stoner & southern rock influences.

"The idea to form a band reaches 2006. Zaczek & Malin who were playing together in NDC, decided to occasionally jam with their friend Molfer, ex-guitarist for the band Necrossis, who just got back from the army. The project work-name was “The Fridge”. The guys started to loosely jam and write some songs together. Unfortunately Zaczek’s & Malin’s obligations with NDC made it impossible to give their full attention to the project. The turning point appeared to be the breakup of NDC in 2008. Shortly afterwards the guys decided to focus on “The Fridge”. They found the drummer Talle’y from an advert. His unique drumming style seemed to fit perfectly for the project needs. It was then, when the band started to write their proper material, and it was also then when the bands final name Sunday Driver On Tour was decided. After few months of playing together, the quartet started to look for a lead singer, which eventually become Koper. Zaczek & Malin knew him from academic circles in Cieszyn, where they were collaborating in a project called Ilinks. Sunday Driver On Tour debut gig was on september 19th 2009 in Primus Pub in Czechowice–Dziedzice. In December the band went to Parabellum studio in Katowice to record their first EP called “Tales From Beyond”.

Hey buddy faces! This is my debut post here at 504NOLA and I've decided to throw up some shit i caught Swampchode slam dancing to. I wouldn't have noticed such a thing until he sprained - not one of his cankles - but two! This is a pretty killer Finnish 6-piece that started out in 1997; they have a handful of excellent full-lengths under their belt that I will surely add in time if they are received well. Their name means ''The Hammers of the Underworld'' in English and they play an experimental form of metal, utilizing every instrument typically not associated within the metal genre. Anyway, don't let that fool you because they are known to cause stage-diving and accidents like Swampchode has suffered on account of them (cankle sprains and such). So, don't be a heauxmeaux, and check it out promptly.

SPRAIN THOSE CANKLES HERE!

Accept nothing, assume nothing.
Always question authority - especially your own.
Matter imprisons the spirit to force it into an effort to free itself.
The instant you speak about a thing, you miss the mark.
Now that I have shed my skin completely,
one true reality alone exists.

Ancient Chinese Secret - Caveat Emptor (1999)

Genre - Hardcore/Experimental
Origin - San Francisco, Ca.
Time - 27.9 min
File - 53.88 MB (320 kbps)

What we have here is one of the most adventurous and exciting forays into the fringe of extreme hardcore in a long time (the fringe of the fringe you might say). A.C.S. consists of two long time mainstays in the power violence underground, namely Matt Martin (ex CAPITALIST CASUALTIES) and Chris Dodge (SPAZZ, Slap A Ham Records, etc) teamed up with trained female vocalist Lydia Dodge who admits to not even liking power violence. The result is an experimental hardcore album that captures the imagination, revels in eclecticism, and still manages to rock your pathetic world. With only bass guitar, drums, vocals, and various key and tape loop embellishments A.C.S. do things with their music that I guarantee you've never heard the likes of before. Their uniqueness is so much a part of their sound that even from track to track they are vastly diverse. Whether it is a song like "The Basics" that has the flavor and directness of early NOMEANSNO or "Sakura" which is as close to "normal" power violence as A.C.S. gets or even the organ interlude "The Overlook", ANCIENT CHINESE SECRET will keep you guessing. Anyone interested in hearing something different needs to check this out. Folks who gravitate towards bands that reject the norm (MITB, GASP, etc) will find their new gods in A.C.S. because in a lot ways this album bridges the gap between the familiar and the bizarre. It has enough roots and simplistic pummeling power to connect it to hardcore fans yet is left of center enough to appeal to fans of music that is way "out there". Hopefully people are smart enough make the connection because it would be a crime if this album got lost somewhere in the middle. (Jeb Branin/In Music We Trust)

Track List:
1. Waiting For Doctor Bombay
2. A Nice Day
3. Moral Of The Story
4. ??? (Japanese Titled)
5. Hyper Liar
6. Obnoxious Fumes
7. The Overlook
8. The Basics
9. Outburst
10. Flight Or Fight
11. Quiet For The Choirmaster
12. Needle's Eye
13. The Candle Burns
14. A Passage Of Time

I picked this up the day it hit the streets. This was release #50 in the Slap a Ham Records catalog. Give it a listen and leave some comments on what you think about it!

Mona De Bo - Nekavējies, Šīs Ir Spēles Ar Tevi (2010)

2010 - Nekavējies, Šīs Ir Spēles Ar Tevi

Mona De Bo is a Latvian band playing a blend of slowcore, drone, and experimental rock music.

Mona De Bo was started as a guitar and drums duo by Edgars Rubenis and Edgars Eihmanis in 2005. By drawing inspiration from Deerhoof, Jeff Buckley and Sonic Youth, they took to their playing with an exploratory approach, more often going into the challenging rather than the redeeming fields of music. Roughly describable as garage-y and experimental, their early material was captured on a debut vinyl, released in 2008. It comprised 10 songs in Latvian and played mostly in duo setting.
Besides releasing their debut album, in 2008 Mona De Bo also traveled to the US to appear at the SXSW music conference, which brought them to the attention of BBC's new music scout Tom Robinson. They also worked with a theater producer Martiņš Eihe, creating an experimental and noise saturated soundtrack for his play in a drama theatre in Valmiera and playing for two seasons running at the play's performances. Touring brought Mona De Bo around the Baltic States, Russia and also Finland. Besides playing clubs they also appeared at such festivals as Jyrock (Fin), Stop The Silence (Ru), Plink Plonk (Ee) and Positivus (Lv).
In 2009, after having almost a year long break, Mona De Bo started playing again and finished the summer with it's second album "Nekavējies, Šīs Ir Spēles Ar Tevi" ("Don't Hesitate, You're Already Part Of It"). Music on the densely orchestrated (the original duo + organ, guitar, trombone, french horn, and double bass) "Nekavējies,..." clearly pays homage to the masters of doom and drone  - Earth and Sunn O))), but also involves bursts of free-jazz improv as well as melodies drenched in layers of white noise. The record was released in March 2010 to a critical acclaim both locally and internationally. It has received frequent airplay on radio stations, including the prominent Jersey City's WFMU.
The band's main desire still remains the powerful, otherworldly experience available through live performances, which have been Mona De Bo's trademark since its very beginnings.

Track Listing:

1.  Vini Aiziet Saule
2.  Priekspedejais
3.  Speles Ar Tevi
4.  Dejosim!
5.  Vestijums
6.  Un Dienas Istums Neizdziest
7.  Lielo Koku Ena

Mona De Bo guitarist Edgars Rubenis was kind enough to send me this album, which is available online for free from their web page. I told him that I would gladly give it a couple of spins and let him know what I thought of it.  He was actually surprised when I told him that I had listened to it quite a few times.  With the Drone scene gaining more and more notoriety, I can see how many really good bands will end up being overlooked . Hopefully these guys aren't one of those bands that people let slip past them.  I really, really enjoyed this album, and have listened to it a bunch more times since I recieved it.  The atmosphere that they have created here is remarkable.   If you are into Drone or Ambient music, do yourself a favor and check these guys out.  They might be the next big thing rolling off the shelves at the Southern Lord Records warehouse.  *fingers crossed*
