Hiatus formed in May [[1989]], at this time the line up was Phill, Ben, Raf and Phil. They played in a [[Doom (band)Doom]]/[[Discharge (band)Discharge]]/[[Extreme Noise TerrorE.N.T.]] style and recorded a rehearsal demo called "The Frightening Men Story". In May 90 they put out their second rehearsal demo called "In My Mind" and soon after Wills joined them on bass. The band went into the studio and recorded a set of songs which were released on two 7"'s and various compilations. Their first 7" "I don't scare easily but..." was released on the French label Urban Alert rec. and had a second pressing on Nabate/Mother Peace rec. A split 7" with RMR from Japan called "Severe Existence" was Hiatus' second 7" and was released on the Japanese label MCR Co. Phil and Raf left and some new members joined: Azill on guitars and vocals and for a short time Vrokker and Leffe from [[Chronic Disease (band)Chronic Disease]]. During August 91 Hiatus toured the U.S.A and Canada with [[The Wurst]] from Rhode Island and played with bands like [[Rorschach (band)Rorschach]], and [[Born Against]]. In November 1991 they recorded another studio session. From this recording the "Way Of Doom" 7" and Hiatus/Embittered 7" were released in 1992. In February 1992 Hiatus toured Europe with No Security from Sweden, also in 1992 they toured the UK with [[Mushroom Attack]] from Holland. In 1993 their "From Resignation ... To Revolt" LP was released on [[Sound Pollution]]. Hiatus also toured Europe and Eastern Europe that year. Among others, there were four dates in Sweden, booked by the band [[Viktors Haufnarren]] and [[Resistance Productions]]. The four France dates ere booked by [[Six feet Over]], [[Ultimate Disorder]], [[Catalogue Du Grand Nord]] and [[Maloka collective]]. In early August they made a five dates tour in Spain with the band [[Six Feet Over]]. The tour was booked by a member of the Spanish band [[Positi Caustico]]. The 15th of August in the "Festes Alternatives a Gracia" in Barna date was a huge success, with thousands of punks and anarchists. Hiatus played there with the band [[Speereth]]. The last date in the tour was in Luxemburg, toured by Diff ([[No More]] and [[Subway Arts]]). In early '94 the Doom/Hiatus 7" was released. In February 1995 they recorded their "El sueno de la razon produce monstruos" LP. In June '95 they toured the USA and Canada again. A self titled mini LP was released on Skuld Releases/[[Profane Existence]] in 1996, the songs on it showed a big progression from their earlier releases with elements of modern [[hardcore punkhardcore]] being added to their [[crustpunk]] sound. Azill and Willy from Hiatus also play in [[Unhinged]] who have a 7" and LP out on [[Nabate]]. (myspace)

This killer disc came out on Ataque Sonoro, a label from Portugal. I always dug the sound that Hiatus created. I caught wind of these Belgian ragers from my friend Joe, by being a regular at his record store. He would always have the turntable blasting, usually new slabs that he had just got in before they made their way into the bins and into his collection.
One day back in '91 I stopped in to see what was new and he was blasting the "Way Of Doom" ep that he had just got in from Profane Existence, a label and zine that he stocked regularly. I immediately asked who was playing on the turntable, he told me and showed me the little stack of copies he had just unpacked and I purchased a couple of copies and was hooked.
This disc is comprised from the bands works between 1990 - 1994. What you get is demo's, live tracks, comp tracks, ep's & split ep's. Missing material in the bands catalog is "The Frightening Men Story" demo(1989), "From Resignation..To Revolt"Lp(1993), "El Sueno De La Razon Produce Monstruos"Lp (1995), Hiatus MLP(1996). Heavy Hardcore Headroom CD is a compilation of bands recorded by Bill T Miller at Headroom. These bands were recorded in a raw anti-production style and are from the 1990-95 era of Headroom Studios.

HHH CD is a collection of Heavy and/or Hardcore bands, I recorded at my small, no frills Half-Inch 16-track. Each of the bands have their own political views and musical styles. I record them in a raw, live, no-budget, DIY, anti-production style. I have my own bands (Out of Band Experience and King Of Feedback) to indulge my own weird-wacko fantasies as a musician. As an independent engineer/producer, I record at many larger more deluxe studios. ExtraTerrestrial Discs is a NO-budget DIY label set-up to release OBE and KOF music, I don't really have the money or distro to release other bands. I was very lucky to have connected with IZUMI from PEFE on the internet. PEFE is perfect, small enough to have DIY ethics, but large enough to be professional with good distribution. I got into these two bands from picking up the "Not Just A Nightmare" ep way back in '93 or '94. After hearing the scathing vokills and the metallic crust frenzy that was unleashed upon my earholes, I was hooked! I followed the bands and managed to pick up all of the vinyl output of both. Suffer is the band Health Hazard turned into immediately after disbanding. This discography was released on Prank Records from San Francisco, Ca. and is release #28 in their catalog. Check this slab out!

With "Dusk of an Ancient Age" Portland, Oregon’s Fall of the Bastards concocts an interesting hybrid of shrill Black Metal violence, throaty Death Metal pummel, and clear, sharp NWOBHM/NWOSDM melody. The results are a powerful and compelling mixture displaying the far-reaching effects and influence of Black Metal on young, up-and-coming American musicians.

While Dusk of an Ancient Age’s overall tone is far distant from “pure” or “rulebook” Black Metal, its marriage of trebly, repetetive riffing to muscular lead guitar work is enthusiastic and authentic enough to silence those who might accuse FOTB of stealing Black Metal’s grim birthright, and of diluting its savage maelstrom. It is genuinely refreshing to hear a young American band splice together Scandinavian Black Metal influences with a strong At The Gates sense of melody, while avoiding the pitfall of merely “aping” the sounds. Purists be warned, there is as much Death Metal (and occassional glimpses of Hardcore) lurking within the folds of Dusk of an Ancient Age. The delivery of vocalist Jason alternates between a shrieked rasp not dissimilar from Marduk to guttural chest-bursting bellows that could messily bore into any Goregrind record.

Interesting things are rustling in the Northwestern corner of the USA, and Fall of The Bastards are only one of the leathery musical serpents to crack a scaled eyelid in that rainy clime. Following the lead of the criminally underheard Teenage Cthulu, and contemporary with Olympia, Washington’s Wolves In the Throne Room, Fall of the Bastards further convolute a sometime Black Metal tradition in their interest in active and distant touring. This DIY approach will hopefully ensure a wide audience for this interesting band. The well-designed cd version of Dusk of an Ancient Age offers four live tracks, which, if indicative of Fall of the Bastard’s live sound, show that FOTB live are raw and energetic performers who are, if anything, even more triumphantly punishing without a recording studio’s polish. Fall Of The Bastards managed to put out a couple of splits, one with Wormwood and one with Book Of The Black Earth and two full lengths Where Dead Hang From Trees (2003) and this before calling it quits. This was released on Intollerant Messiah, the now defunct label from San Mateo, Ca. that was run by Lord Balsakk from the Agents Of Satan. I really liked this band I would say equal parts Death, Black metal and Crust. Since disbanding the members have moved on to form or join other kickass musical projects such as Splatterhouse, Oakhelm, L'Acephale and D'Gul, hit their page up by going here and check out what they are creating now days.

"Formed in 1993, STRONG INTENTION continues to deliver brutal hardcore fueled by extreme speed, heaviness, and disgust. The band's earliest incarnation found itself heavily Influenced by classic NYHC outfits such as AGNOSTIC FRONT, BREAKDOWN, and the CRO-MAGS, and released the What's At Stake demo in 1993. These early recordings aligned the band with ultra-tough heavy hardcore represented in Maryland by NEXT STEP UP and GUT INSTINCT. But by 1995, issues of focus took their toll on the lineup, leaving then-guitarist Zac as the only original member, and putting the band into a year-long hiatus. In 1996, the band re-formed around a new core lineup, and the new members brought a new, diverse range of ideas and influences to the band. Gradually writing faster and faster material, the band released a debut 7" EP in 1996 on Crucial Blast. This EP was a minor departure from the earlier heavy NYHC hardcore the band had been known for; as the newer material was much faster and moved Zac over to lead vocals. After the EP was released, STRONG INTENTION continued to go through a myriad of lineup changes throughout the 90's; yet managed to tour the US and Canada 5 times.

Through all of this, the band's sound has continued to shift more and more towards the harshest ends of the underground extreme hardcore / metal spectrum, as well as cultivate a thoroughly apocalyptic worldview.

Recent actions have included the May 2002 STRONG INTENTION / CRIPPLE BASTARDS East Coast tour, the release of the band's latest recording, a 14 song CD entitled Extermination Vision, released on the European label COALITION RECORDS, and a BRAND NEW split EP with Germany's Y. Over the past 2 years, the band has also released their debut LP/CD, What Else Can We Do..., as well as the 10 song 7" EP Each Day Lived An Act Of Defiance on California label SIX WEEKS.

Strong Intention also completed a May 2004 East Coast tour with PHOBIA and ROTTEN SOUND (Finalnd) and just completed a 40day US summer tour with crossover legends D.R.I.

2005 saw more touring from S.I. , including 2 US tours and about 75 shows for the year.

In 2006 the band did a Feb/March US tour with NEURAXIS (Prosthetic), which included west coast dates with IMPALED and DISFEAR and marked the bands first show ever in MEXICO. The band followed up that tour with an east coast/midwest tour with DISFEAR,MISERY INDEX, PHOBIA and 9 SHOCKS TERROR. It was definitely a career high point as far as touring goes.

Once the tour was completed the band went into the studio with STEVE AUSTIN (TODAY IS THE DAY) and worked on the follow up to Extermination Vision. 18 songs were recorded and 2010 will finally see the release of the new cd.........FREEDOM IS SLAVERY !!" ~ Band's Myspace

Hot Graves - D Beat Death Dirge (Demo 2008)

The title of this filthy little offering pretty much says it all. Just punishing shit here. Plus they're from Fl. so I'm all over it...


"At this point of my uber-metal-nerd’s existence, it’s a rare event to encounter a band that I haven’t at the very least heard about before (at least on the East Coast) so I was more than a little curious when I strolled into this year’s Heart of Winter Fest in Richmond, VA and bellied up to the stage just in time to catch the second band. My first impression of Hot Graves was “Crusty, thrashy, blackened d-beat with a sassy Southern boy on the mic? Cool.” Five minutes into their set, it was looking more like Armageddon. Cranked-out bestial warlust and gleeful blasphemy were the order of the evening, as frontman Myk spewed raspy Satanic screeds over Nunslaughtering riffs and plenty of toxic sludge and bassist Hutch spent most of his time threatening to propel himself off the monitors onto a crowd of the unwashed.

Hot Graves swear allegiance to like-minded blasphemers in Archgoat, Discharge, Revenge, Hellhammer and Wolfbrigade with their genre-smashing amalgamation of black metal, thrash, crust punk, war metal and heavier-than-hell slabs of primitive death metal (think Necros Christos). Throw in the odd sizzling guitar solo, a quartet of Southern drawls sweet as Waffle House sizzurp, sick Anti-Cimex & Discharge covers and a tongue-in-cheek, fuck-you attitude, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a good time. "Limited Edition pressing of this 2008 CD EP from the Irish Metal band. Since forming almost 15 years ago from the remains of Irish crust bands TVP and Bleeding Rectum, Belfast's Scald have garnered a reputation for shunning the usual conventions to create original music that's as enigmatic as it is visceral. Fluke is a vicious indictment of the global Catholic Church and it's secretive history of greed and manipulation. Five tracks of blackened, grinding Metal performed at breakneck pace provide a platform for a scathing attack, spat and screamed forth in Scald's inimitable and immediately identifiable style. The EP finishes with a 25 minute; sprawling ambient noise composition that uses captured and processed audio from the Fluke session and an Italian spoken-word monologue. Caustic Christ - Can't Relate (2003)

Swampchode got me on a Pallbearer's kick and somehow it made me run across this band again which I haven't heard in years. Crazy, crusty punk recommended to anybody that's looking to catch a case of whiplash...


"You should know the drill by now, expect lots of fast hardcore/punk (but not too fast) with shouted vocals and fucking slick bass runs that fly all over the place rather than copying the guitars. Most of the songs hover right around a minute each and they just shred straight through without fucking around. These cats were never particularly sloppy, but I must say that the new tracks are tighter than ever, so the performances are really fucking dead on. There's definitely more of an emphasis on the punk influences this time out, it's still thick, but it's not what I would classify as necessarily heavy, and the slightly chaotic aspects have become more controlled and refined, which really fits the delivery a lot better. "Frat Boy", for example, has a slightly "catchier" structure with some gang backup vocals and such, but there are still a few tracks with that driving sort of heavier crust thing happening, namely "Immaculate Deception". Then they close the LP with a great cover of Flipper's "Ha, Ha, Ha". I love the recording. It's thick and natural with a suitable mix that gives everything its own space. It's certainly not polished, but it's not overly raw or anything like that at all. It's a lot clearer and more well rounded than the EP's, that's for sure. The layout is all in black and white with a little bit of green, and the artwork is incredible. There are tons of awesome illustrations, and I love the way the booklet is set up. All of the covers from the 7" releases are included, and the lyrics are presented straight off of the EP layouts as well, which works out great. Most of the lyrics are personal and just deal with base level frustrations and stuff, but then out of nowhere there's a scathing political attack like "Satisfied Means Pacified": "The vote is nothing more than a scam, Like war, taxes, and justice and the freedom of your 'fellow man', So wave the flag and praise the lord, Demand your given voice, Pull the lever, drop the ballot, and believe that you've made a choice." Good stuff. The new songs are the band's best yet in my opinion, so definitely pick this up if you enjoyed any of the previous 7" releases. (7/10)" ~ Aversiononline.com
