Brother Inferior - Anthems '94-'97 (1999)

Genre - Anarcho Hardcore Punk
Origin - Tulsa, Oklahoma
Time - 73:12 min.
File - 150.29 MB(320kbps)

Brother Inferior started out in the summer of 94 with Ryan, Chad, Alex, Mike and 2nd guitarist named Dan Riffe. They recorded "Bound & Gagged" seven inch after only two monthes or so of practice and Dan left the band shortly after. They all pretty much hate that record but others like it, so oh well. They did a big U.S. tour in the summer '95, did the "Blasphemy & Treason" 7" in early '96, did a short west coast tour in summer '96, then came the split 7" with NOTA and the LP in early 97 and a massive 3-month tour of the U.S. and Canada that summer. They were very, very active in those years, constantly playing local and writing new songs. However, Alex quit the band right after that tour so they remained very inactive for a long period. They finally got Grant Lohrey on bass, but then Mikey quit the band, but not before recording the "Six More Reasons" 7" That wasn't released until early '99, by then they were playing a lot again with Jason Garvey from Rash of Beatings on Drums. During that inactive period Ryan kept busy playing with Burned UP, Bleed Dry, from Fort Smith Arkansas and touring with them in summer '98. Burned Up, Bleed Dry did a really good 7" on slap a ham records, but then broke up last summer. Brother Inferior did another U.S. Tour this past July and AUgust and then leaving straight for Europe for september, October, and Novemeber. It was massively long, strenuous tour, playing in over 20 countries. BI played close to 100 shows in 1999. They also released a 7" on Trujaca Fala records in Poland called "Dismantiling the Capitalist Machine -Euro-Tour '99." Brother Inferior is now taking a long break. Ryan went on to play in the band "protest stagnation" and currently plays in the Portland based band "exit collapse." Chad fronts the bands "Larkin" and "Bring Down the Hammer". (myspace)

I bought their S/T ep way back in 1993 from my friends record shop, Below Zero Records and was hooked. I then managed to pickup all their output, which is represented here. You'll hear a little Negative Approach in their delivery. Hit this to check out an old interview done with Bob from 2008.

Here's a ripping DIY Grindcore comp put out by long running label, 625 Thrashcore. I was a long time follower of this label up until, about 5 years ago. I used to buy everything the label put out from the start and pretty much the whole catalog is kickass, there are a few stinkers though! This is release number 69 from the label. You get some well known heavy hitters mixed with some up & comers (for the time, 2002) in the DIY Grindcore scene. Check it out!

Godstomper - Art Damaged Masochists Vol.1 (2001)

Art Damaged Masochists Vol.1

Genre - Grindcore/Powerviolence
Origin - Sunnyvale, Ca.
Time - disc 1: 54:56 disc 2: 47.18
File - disc 1: 104.85 MB disc 2: 90.75 MB (320kbps)

Hailing from Sunnyvale, a working class suburb outside of San Francisco California, Godstomper are D.I.Y. noise musicians who support lo-fi analog, do it yourself recordings, anti scenes, antifascist and antiracist organizations, anti rockstar, anti popularity, anti political and religious attitude. Starting in 1991 as a two piece bass and drum band due to their problems of dealing with guitar players, Godstomper recorded a few tape demos in their bedroom of crude death metal and early napalm death inspired grindcore mixed with sample recordings and one such recording, their first, was pressed on a 500 press ep split with Germany’s Skrupel on Rescued from life records in 2005 as a experimental collectors record of bands first demo recordings. Soon Godstomper was put on hiatus as the two brothers Paul barfo and Daniel 666 started their anti music band The Barfos with three guitarists from high school, Dave Winters , Krish Irish and Raina Kumra. The band was a mess of untuned guitars, samples, noise, punk, death metal and sonic youth meets napalm death meets the buthole surfers sound. In 1996 The Barfos went their seperate ways and Paul and Danny started writing songs, influenced by the sounds of San joses shoe gazer heavy indy rock band Calm and Redwood citys Spazz infest influenced powerviolence sound, wrote songs like Fozzy bear about the night one of their friends singer/guitarist John Ogle of the band Fifteen and Wooly Mammoth was punched out by a thug skinhead at a local show and so the was born the start of many of the songs that would make up Godstomper’s two man bass and drum influenced heavy rock powerviolence sound or as they rather see it as structured noise with shouting. Godstomper was born again on febuary 14 1996 at 3am live on KFJC 89.7, a local college radio station Paul was a staff member of and soon a split 7inch with San Jose’s youngest and only grind punk band with female vocals Cathy Ames was put out and the support from the Cupertino library scene and the Redwood city hardcore scene like bands like Slobber, RWs, Agents of Satan, No less, Benumb, The Misanthropists, Uttered Bastard helped create a unified and strong local bay area hardcore scene in the South and West Bay. Bands from the South Bay that also contributed to the support of said bands included Noothgrush, Exhumed, Calm, The Lipids, Psychobabylon, Jenny piccolo, Woolly Mammoth etc…Soon godstomper was putting out splits with local bands they were friends with, playing live radio shows, 924 gilman st. project, solidarity festivals, anarchist fests. Soon offers from much well known diy record labels 625 prod. and Slap A Ham records came in for full length 7inches which the band was happy with since they loved the records that came out on the labels plus their fondness of diy principles that anyone can put out a recording and not with the support of big corporate labels. Godstomper til this day still represents their diy ideals of putting out records on smaller labels , music before profit, supporting new bands, and being a accesible group to young show promoters without the attitude or politics. Through all their ups and down as a band, personal problems, and keeping a moderate position in the music scene unless you mention their attack on the emo scene due to the similarities of the once pompous and ego fueled metal scene of the 80’s, Godstomper still records and plays shows when they can. SMD - Hatefed Motherfucker 666 (2004)

Hatefed Motherfucker 666

Genre - Hardcore Thrash
Origin - Pico Rivera, Ca.
Time - 23:14 min.
File: 48.54 (320kbps)

It started back in Jan. of 1990 in my garage in PICO RIVERA,CA with the Our first line up. (Vocals-Maury,Guitar-Burgie,Bass-Raul,Drums-Murtle) In Oct. of 1990 Rito joined the band on Drums and Murtle switched to Guitar. In 1992 we were ready to go in the studio to record our first demo, which was a 5 song cassette. At the time we where playing a lot of Backyard Gigs all around L.A. In 1993 we went back into the studio to record our first 7” which was a 9 song E.P. (SMD s/t 7” 500 pressed -out of print) that we released ourselves.

Around the same time shows started to get harder to get, so we played a few clubs in HOLLYWOOD and I remember one night at the ANTI-CLUB the owners were so pissed off at us, that when the show was over as they were kicking us out they said “you will never play HOLLYWOOD again” but we didn’t give a shit. In 1994 our friend Mike moved up to the Bay Area. So we had a out of town contact. By the beginning of 1995 we started going up North and playing shows all over the Bay Area with his band OPPRESSED LOGIC. We ended up meeting a lot of cool people which we are still in contact with today.

In 1996 we went back in the studio to record our second 7” which was a 8 song E.P. (SMD “KING OF DRUNK” 7” on BEER CITY RECORDS 1,000 pressed on Beer colored vinyl-out of print). The line up at the time of this recording was, (Vocals-Maury,Guitar-Burgie,Drums-Rito,Bass-Rose). In 1998 we went back in the studio to record another demo which was a 17 song cassette. The line up for this recording was, (Vocals-Maury,Guitar and Bass-Burgie,Drums-Rito). In 2000 we went back into the studio to record our first Full Length which was a 15 song CD (SMD “PISSING BEER” CD on KING OF DRUNK RECORDS) the line up on this recording was, (Vocals-Maury,Drums-Rito,Guitar-Nick,Bass-Rose).

In May of 2002 we were playing a show at Gilman St. In BERKLEY,CA. After our set my friend Jeff asked if we would be interested in putting out a full length on his label (SIX WEEKS RECORDS) So it took us 1 year and 4 months to come up with this MOTHERFUCKER! In Sept. of 2003 we went into the studio to record our second full length which was a 16 song CD (SMD “MOTHERFUCKER 666” CD on SIX WEEKS RECORDS) Released April of 2004 The line up on this recording was, (Vocals-Maury,Guitar and Bass-Burgie,Drums-Rito) In Oct. of 2004 we went on our first tour out of CALIFORNIA covering most of the Southwest. We met a lot of cool people and I’m sure we pissed off a few on the way just by our nature. (from their myspace page)

Track list:
1. Motherfucker 666
2. Hatefed
3. Bad Rep
4. Drunk & Pissed
5. Commit Suicide
6. Annihilation

This unit has been tearing it up for 20 years now with pretty much the same core, changing a bass player here and there along the way. I caught wind of these guys after picking up the "King of Drunk" 7" that came out on Beer City Records in '96. I was glad to see these guys hooking up with the cool people at Six Weeks Records and putting this disc out. They will be making a jaunt up the West Coast in August, maybe more dates will be added by then? Hit up their page by clicking here.

Fall Of The Bastards - Dusk Of An Ancient Age (2004)

Dusk Of An Ancient Age (2004)

Genre - Black Metal/Death Metal
Origin - Portland, Oregon
Time - 48:34 min.
File - 97.58 MB (320kbps)

With "Dusk of an Ancient Age" Portland, Oregon’s Fall of the Bastards concocts an interesting hybrid of shrill Black Metal violence, throaty Death Metal pummel, and clear, sharp NWOBHM/NWOSDM melody. The results are a powerful and compelling mixture displaying the far-reaching effects and influence of Black Metal on young, up-and-coming American musicians.

While Dusk of an Ancient Age’s overall tone is far distant from “pure” or “rulebook” Black Metal, its marriage of trebly, repetetive riffing to muscular lead guitar work is enthusiastic and authentic enough to silence those who might accuse FOTB of stealing Black Metal’s grim birthright, and of diluting its savage maelstrom. It is genuinely refreshing to hear a young American band splice together Scandinavian Black Metal influences with a strong At The Gates sense of melody, while avoiding the pitfall of merely “aping” the sounds. Purists be warned, there is as much Death Metal (and occassional glimpses of Hardcore) lurking within the folds of Dusk of an Ancient Age. The delivery of vocalist Jason alternates between a shrieked rasp not dissimilar from Marduk to guttural chest-bursting bellows that could messily bore into any Goregrind record.

Interesting things are rustling in the Northwestern corner of the USA, and Fall of The Bastards are only one of the leathery musical serpents to crack a scaled eyelid in that rainy clime. Following the lead of the criminally underheard Teenage Cthulu, and contemporary with Olympia, Washington’s Wolves In the Throne Room, Fall of the Bastards further convolute a sometime Black Metal tradition in their interest in active and distant touring. This DIY approach will hopefully ensure a wide audience for this interesting band. The well-designed cd version of Dusk of an Ancient Age offers four live tracks, which, if indicative of Fall of the Bastard’s live sound, show that FOTB live are raw and energetic performers who are, if anything, even more triumphantly punishing without a recording studio’s polish. (a review taken from their myspace page)

Track List:
1. In The Midst Of Obsolete
2. Intrinsical Lost
3. Put To Death II
4. Signs Of Impending Apocalypse
5. Angelrot
6. Otherwise Blank Expression
7. Idiocy Parade
8. Dawn ( The Mourning After)
Bonus live Tracks 2/1/03
9. Where Dead Hang From Trees
10. Put To Death I
11. Otherwise Blank Expression
12. Wanderers Of A Deserted Plain

Fall Of The Bastards managed to put out a couple of splits, one with Wormwood and one with Book Of The Black Earth and two full lengths Where Dead Hang From Trees (2003) and this before calling it quits. This was released on Intollerant Messiah, the now defunct label from San Mateo, Ca. that was run by Lord Balsakk from the Agents Of Satan. I really liked this band I would say equal parts Death, Black metal and Crust. Since disbanding the members have moved on to form or join other kickass musical projects such as Splatterhouse, Oakhelm, L'Acephale and D'Gul, hit their page up by going here and check out what they are creating now days.

The Index - Unmade (2002)

Unmade (2002)

Genre - Grind/Thrash
Origin - Sterling, Va.
Time - 12:41 min.
File - 25.27 MB (320kbps)

Track List:
1. Megan
2. Ride Fast

3. Transmission
4. Lost
5. Circle Of You

The Index mix elements of new school hardcore with pulverizing grind blasts. Most appreciated are the absolutely throat destroying female vocals by The Index's screamer Elysia, who sounds like a cross between Blaine from The Accused and Schmeir from Destruction. The band also features two ex members of Enemy Soil, Richard and Mason.

The Index put out a s/t full length back in 2000' on a label called Displacer Beast. This 5 track disc was put out on Brick In The Face Anesthesia Recordings, a label that I think was run by one of the members of the band. The liner notes says it was recorded by Mark, one of the guitarist's in 2002 and it was released after the s/t full length.

I got this disc from a gig at 924 Gilman St. in Berkeley (around that time) from a couple of smokin hot punk chicks that were walking through the crowd handing out a stack of CD's! I remember getting this, a Watch Them Burn disc and a disc by a band called DeadFood. I should dig them out and post them sometime. Let me know what you think by leaving a comment.....haha, yeah right!

Here's a disc I picked up way back in 98' that I forgot I had because it's so small and gets lost in the other cd's it shelves with..haha! What you have here is Cause For Effect from Finland with a jazz infused style of grindcore and Utter Bastard from San Francisco playing their brand of straight forwardgrind. This was released on a short lived Finnish label called Tylyt Levyt.

More on Cause For Effect can be found here and here. Utter Bastard was the reason I picked this lil'slab up in the first place. I picked up their debut ep when it came out back in 96' and have been a fan since. I have the majority of their out put except for the 2002 split w/ Irritate and the new split I just seen on their page here . My favorite release by Utter Bastard is the split they did with Deadbodieseverywhere back in 98' on 625 Productions. Check this mini disc out and leave some damn comments!

Throw'n this up after Devildowninga dig'n the Agents Of Satan's tracks on "This Comp Kills Fascists" that he posted yesterday.
The Agents Of Satan formed in Redwood City, Ca. back in 1995 from the ashes of a band called Radioactive Lunch and are still in existence today in one form or another. I'm lucky enough to have witnessed the live brutality brought forth by the A.O.S many times and they always delivered the goods. Here are a few names in the West Bay Coalition family of bands that A.O.S members are in and have been in Deadbodies Everywhere, Plutocracy, Go Like This!, Altamira, Funeral Shock and Apeshit. Not much info here but you can check out some of the previous mentioned bands. Comments are greatly accepted!!
