Here's the new album from Menace Ruine and I just got done listening to it and it's not really what I was expecting but holy crap I liked it a lot. There's really no metal to be found here but more along the lines of surreal feedback and distorted drone soundscapes with chilling monotone female vocals. Fans of avante-garde (especially Nico) will really love this one. Hauntingly beautiful.

I thought I would make my first post coincide with my first CD purchase ever. The Grindcrusher Various Artists compilation released by Earache/Combat in 1990. I bought this when I was 11 years old in summer of 1992 at a little used record/book store in Santa Cruz California called Logos. I went there looking for Napalm Death and found the next best thing, or maybe even better. A compilation with all the greatest Earache bands at the time (or ever). Here you will find the most known bands including Morbid Angel, Repulsion, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Entombed and of course Napalm Death with more obscure bands such as Sore Throat, Naked City, Sweet Tooth, Spazztic Blurr, Mighty Force and Hellbastard. This was a treasure trove of underground Death Metal, Grind and even Noise and Electronic back then, which were completely new to me at the time. Grind Crusher was eventually re-released in a hacked up form with most of the rarer tracks cut off, but this is the original complete version. Enjoy!

"Fuck on the Beach (AKA FxOxB) is a power violence/thrashcore band from Tokyo, Japan. They have released several records on the influential hardcore punk record label Slap-A-Ham Records run by Spazz vocalist/bassist Chris Dodge.

In 1999 the band played at Fiesta Grande, a power violence music festival put on by Slap-A-Ham Records, at 924 Gilman as part of their US Tour. This concert was recorded and released on CD as Power Violence Forever US Tour 1999.

Although the band's first language is Japanese, the lyrics and titles of their songs are in English. This often results in examples of Engrish such as the songs "I Cannot Stop Fall in Love" or "Never No Skin Fuck" from their Power Violence Forever CD" ~ Wiki

The key word for "weird feelings" can be "smirking" - they are based on quite serious musical cliches that are taunted with all the power of imagination agitated by mushrooms. The result they get is to be made absurd, mixed here and there with different properties and trumpery such as, degenerate vocals, acid-synthesised grunting, sounds of traditional Chukchi-Nenetsk autonomous region and etc. And such kind of miraculous stuff changes one another at the speed high enough not to be able to catch their succession. And that is what makes the album the one to listen to and the one that can't be classified. That's where the compound words like "weird-neo-noise-grind-jazz" come from to define the things that deadfood creates. Although even these words wouldn't characterize the unruly music. Here is Deadfood's 3 song demo from 2000. They were a band from Southern California that featured Kevin Fetus from the bands Watch Me Burn (previous post), Fetus Eaters and Cattle Decapitation (briefly). Deadfoods music is all over the map and really hard to tag if labels are your thing.

Kevin also runs a label called Vomitcore Records that puts out most of his bands releases. The review above is from their 2001 self released full length "Weird Feelings" in which these three songs appear. Info on Deadfood is minimal but here's an interview from 2002 here and here. Check it out!

Cows (also referred as The Cows) were a noise rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. The band formed in 1987 and disbanded in 1998. They were known for a unique mixture of punk rock and blues played with large amounts of noise and surreal humor; their music is often considered noise rock. Their CD releases are often difficult to find, as most of them are out of print, with the exception of Whorn and Orphan's Tragedy. Some of their albums, such as their debut album, Taint Pluribus Taint Unum, were never released in CD format.

They have a star on what is probably the most famous venue in the area, First Avenue. After disbanding, Shannon Selberg went on to front the band Heroine Sheiks.

The band was notorious for their raucous live performances. Acts the band have performed onstage include kicking people in the front row, spitting on the stage, throwing the microphone stand into the crowd, throwing food at the crowd, drawing on themselves, among others. Lead singer Shannon Selberg's trademark is that he has a tattoo illustrating the game Hangman on his body that reads "F_CK" and another tattoo of an anchor with the word "DAD" on top of it. One reviewer wrote about the band's shows, "I have no doubt that The Cows know how to play their instruments. What I don't understand is why they refuse to tune them." - from wikipedia
