The Unnaturals are an excellent band from New Orleans that bring something different to the table.  SURF music!  They are probably one of the busiest bands in the city too, having played shows with all the locals (Suplecs, Die Rotzz, The Bills, The Pallbearers, Crotch Breaker, etc.) as well as many national touring acts such as  The Goddamn Gallows, Daikaiju, Muhammadali, etc. Jenn also plays bass in the local all female rock band Terranova, and is also the front woman for local punk band The Split()Lips.

Ronaldo Selistre wails, growls, and snarls through the 13 track punk-psychobilly mayhem that is Gotham Beggars Syndicate . Selistre s vocals simultaneously entice and petrify, leaving the question of whether the sounds of this groaning Brazilian are those of pain, pleasure, or murder. Selistre, along with Francis K, provide the guitar work for the album: a dual layered sound of dark undertones and punk-blues riffs. Backed by Michael Munhoz providing roots meets punk driven sounds on percussion, Selistre and Francis K. provide the guitar sounds of a punk rock cabaret of all things macabre: as if The Hives were cross-bred with Nick Cave.

Born in 2005 in the cold Porto Alegre city, south of Brazil, they made their debut with the independent EP The Devil Is a Preacher , which immediately caught the attention of alternative media and brought a new color to the local underground musical scene. In their first two years of life, the southern Vampires have printed a trademark on the Brazilian alternative universe. They ve traveled through the country, playing in bars, halls, and festivals including Goiania Noise ( Brazil s main indie festival); jumped to the pages of the Brazilian Rolling Stone magazine; and put four tracks in the soundtrack of the new Gustavo Spolidoro film Ainda Orangotangos ( Still Orangutans ) which recently completed its successful participation in international cinema festivals in the Netherlands and Canada .

April brings the United States debut of Damn Laser Vampires with Gotham Beggars Syndicate . Thirteen songs of hard hitting sounds that will make all take notice. Songs such as Saint of Killers and The Devil is a Preacher demonstrate storytelling not traditionally found in the punk sound. Graveyard Polka brings the sound of an accordion to a new demonic low. Led by the late, great, Country Dick Montana and featuring the Reverend Mojo Nixon and the incomparable Dave Alvin, the Pleasure Barons laid waste to rock and roll convention. Call it cow punk, psycho-billy, or pure mayhem, this CD is a monument to what makes rock great. It will never happen again.

The greatest supergroup never to be seen again. Perfect mix of drunken pyschos doing fantastic music that would make the clowns at The Rock and Roll Hall of Lame quake in their booties.

"Blasters guitarist Dave Alvin spent the early '90s touring with the Pleasure Barons, featuring Mojo Nixon and Beat Farmers drummer/singer Country Dick Montana. Their rowdy stage show was chronicled on a 1993 concert album that didn't include the following encounter with an audience member.

Some guy in the audience in Isla Vista was heckling me nonstop," Alvin told the Reader, "and Mojo...jumped off the stage, grabbed the loudmouth, threw him to the floor, and dry-humped him into submission while the audience cheered. The poor heckler -- after Mojo was finished punishing him -- ran out the front door and probably never heckled anyone again. When Mojo jumped back onstage, Country Dick said, 'Good job, Mojo. Please come by my room later.'"

Described as 'A brute gang of juvenile motor heads who tune their rods to the horror-surf of the beat from the streets', The Bills exist in a world of the past. Chains break teeth, blades break skin, and rubber coats the pavement as this sadistic gang of criminal musicians bust out snare pops and guitar riffs coated with a creepy echoing twang.

The Reverend Horton Heat - The Full Custom Gospel Sounds Of.....(1993)

This is probably my favorite album by these crazy Texan's, but everything they've put out is really good. But what do you get when you mix Gibby Haynes with The Rev. and crew? Badassness, that's what...Not a filler song on this one and "Bales Of Cocaine" and "400 Bucks" are just flat out awesome! I've been listening to this from time to time for the last 15 years and it NEVER gets old.


"When the Reverend Horton Heat returned with a sophomore album, he had fellow manic Texan Gibby Haynes (of Butthole Surfers fame) riding the production board. Recorded in Memphis's Ardent Studios, GOSPEL SOUNDS is yet another rabble-rousing batch of slap bass, breakneck-speed guitar, and the raspy singing of the good Reverend Heat (Jim Heath).

When Heat isn't whooping it up with the lascivious "Wiggle Stick," he's putting on a nimble display of fingerpicking on the instrumental "Beer: 30." Unfettered garage rock is furiously delivered on such manic workouts as "Big Little Baby," the runaway "Lonesome Train," and the chugging, fleet-fingered "Bales of Cocaine," an amusing tale of drug smugglers. A highlight is the Mojo Nixon-flavored and absurd "You Can't Get Away From Me," a rollicking ditty about a groupie in which the Stray Cats, Charlie Sexton, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are mentioned. Hellbound Glory is pure Scumbag Country, as real as the grime and grit on old abandoned buildings in the towns like Reno NV, Butte MT, Aberdeen WA, and Fresno CA that the members of the band grew up in. The band began in the summer of 2004 and after a few line up changes and countless gigs in divebars and honky tonks throughout northern Nevada they arrived at a solid line up and began to travel where ever anyone wanted to hear their honest Scumbag Country. Hellbound Glory's Scumbag Country sound builds on the roots of Honky Tonk, Bluegrass, Rockabilly, and Outlaw Country to create something that is as traditional as Grandma's apple pie and as potent as your cousin's home cooked crank. Lead singer-rhythm guitarist Leroy Virgil writes the songs and is the conductor of the hellbound train that is the bands trademark rowdy “off the rails” live show. Rounding out the band is the Jerry Reed meets Jimmie Hendrix guitar work of Johnny Fingers (Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, Saddle Tramps), the Maximum C&W drumming of Chico Kortan, the thumpin’ bass of Frank Medina, and the pure country sound of Adam Jaffe’s pedal steel guitar and banjo. After an impromptu acoustic performance by Leroy in the office of Gearhead Records’ president Michelle Haunold, a deal was struck up and the band went to work on their debut album, Scumbag Country. With Reno’s gambling, all night drinking, and rampant substance abuse as a backdrop, the album is as strewn with tales of hardlivin’, hard drinkin’, and hardluck as the Reno streets are themselves. In fact, as a tribute to the man who once wrote the immortal words “shot a man in Reno”, there’s even a song about a train on the album. So forget the fact that Hellbound Glory has performed with national acts and country legends like David Allen Coe, Junior Brown, Dale Watson, Lemmy (of Motorhead), Hank 3, Wayne Hancock, Jesse Dayton, the Legendary Shackshackers, Heavy Trash, Supersuckers, Devil Makes Three, BR549, the Weary Boys, Lee Rocker (Stray Cats), Robbie Fulks, and Throwrag and just listen to their true Scumbag Country tales.
